About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Majalah Kedokteran Bandung (MKB) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes research in tropical medicine, infectious diseases, and biomedical sciences, with an emphasis on the translational and clinical relevance of experimental findings.
The journal welcomes manuscripts in, but not limited to, the following areas:
Infectious and tropical diseases, including emerging and re-emerging infections, antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis, dengue, vector-borne diseases, and zoonotic diseases.
Experimental and natural product–based biomedical research, focusing on bioactive compounds, herbal or marine products, in vitro and in vivo studies, cellular and molecular mechanisms, and pharmacological evaluations with therapeutic or translational potential.
Clinical and translational medicine, encompassing diagnostic approaches, disease mechanisms, clinical management, biomarkers, treatment outcomes, and therapy evaluation relevant to tropical, subtropical, and low- and middle-income country settings—particularly in resource-limited environments.
Public health, epidemiology, and behavioral medicine, addressing disease prevention, community health, and behavioral aspects in tropical and subtropical regions.
MKB publishes case reports on a limited basis, accepting only two to three case report articles per year, focusing on rare and clinically significant cases.
The journal is published quarterly (March, June, September, and December), with up to 12 articles per issue. (Abbreviation: MKB)
Peer Review Process
An editor initially reviews the submitted manuscript to determine if it aligns with our journal’s focus and scope, typically within one to two weeks. If the manuscript fits within the journal’s scope, an editorial assistant will then verify that all submission requirements are complete, also within one to two weeks. Authors will have one week after receiving notification to address any incomplete requirements or make necessary corrections to the manuscript. The editor may reject the manuscript outright if it does not fit the journal’s scope, lacks general interest, or is otherwise deemed inappropriate. All manuscripts passing this initial screening will undergo a plagiarism check before being sent for peer review.
Each manuscript that clears this stage will be reviewed by two or three reviewers through a double-blind peer-review process. At least one reviewer will be from a different institution or country. The manuscript will be sent to reviewers anonymously, and their comments will be forwarded to the corresponding author, who will then address the feedback. The review process typically takes 3-6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the feedback and the adequacy of the manuscript.
The editor will consider the peer review reports when making a decision, but is not bound by the reviewers’ opinions or recommendations. Concerns raised by a peer reviewer or the editor may lead to manuscript rejection. Authors will receive the peer review report based on the editorial decision, which may include one of the following outcomes: "manuscript accepted," "manuscript accepted with minor revisions," "manuscript accepted with major revisions," or "manuscript rejected."
Authors should carefully review and address the reviewers’ comments. Revisions should be based on these comments, and a point-by-point response should be provided to indicate how each comment has been addressed. If certain revisions cannot be made, authors should offer sufficient explanations. After completing the revisions, authors should resubmit the revised manuscript to the journal. The revised manuscript may be reviewed by the editor alone or by both the editor and reviewers during the second round of review.
Finally, the editor will provide the final decision. If the editor determines that the revisions have satisfactorily addressed previous concerns and that the manuscript has improved, it will proceed to the final step. Accepted manuscripts will then be checked by a copyeditor for language editing.

Majalah Kedokteran Bandung (MKB) is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original articles in basic medical research, clinical research, and case reports. The journal is published quarterly (March, June, September, and December) by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran. Manuscripts may be submitted in Indonesian or English; however, all articles must meet international scientific standards. All submissions undergo a double-blind peer-review process as well as editorial evaluation before acceptance for publication.
Majalah Kedokteran Bandung was first published in 1967 and received ISSN 0126-074X for its print version. The journal has been available online since 2009 with ISSN 2338-6223, starting from Vol. 41 No. 1 (2009), in accordance with the policy of LIPI. Therefore, publications from March 2009 to December 2014 have been back-issued.
Another milestone for Majalah Kedokteran Bandung (MKB) was achieved in December 2018, when the journal began requiring all submitted manuscripts to be written in English. Authors whose articles are still in Indonesian are encouraged to contact the editorial office for assistance.
Starting in 2024, Majalah Kedokteran Bandung increased its publication capacity to include 12 articles per issue. This adjustment aims to accommodate a broader range of valuable research contributions in basic medical research, clinical research, applied medical sciences, and public health. With this expanded content, MKB continues its commitment to serving as a prominent platform for the dissemination of high-quality, peer-reviewed medical research.
The Editorial Board of Majalah Kedokteran Bandung (MKB) also announces an update to the journal’s Aims and Scope, which will be implemented starting in 2026.
